About

What it does

Plexecuter is a small Mac menu bar utility that automatically fixes the two things that most often take a home Plex server offline.

First, Plex Media Server crashes or quits, and nobody notices until someone sits down to watch something. Plexecuter checks on a timer and relaunches Plex the moment it's gone.

Second, the power goes out. The Mac comes back up, but the network share holding your media, such as a Synology share, doesn't reconnect. Plex stays down with an empty library until someone remounts the share by hand. Plexecuter reconnects the share on its own, with no login dialogs, so Plex comes back with your whole library in place.

Features

What's inside

Restarts Plex after a crash

Checks every few minutes that Plex Media Server is running, and relaunches it if it has crashed or quit.

Reconnects after a power outage

When the power comes back and your SMB or AFP share (a Synology share, for example) hasn't reconnected, Plexecuter mounts it again with no login dialogs, so it works unattended. An unreachable NAS fails fast instead of hanging.

Wake check

Runs an extra check right after the Mac wakes from sleep, when shares most often drop.

At-a-glance status

The menu bar icon turns into a warning triangle when something's wrong, with an incident count in the menu.

Incident history

Counts of Plex crashes, disconnects and auto-repairs over 24 hours, 7 days and 30 days, plus a filterable event log you can export to Numbers or Excel.

Keychain only

Your NAS password is stored in the macOS Keychain and nowhere else.

Set and forget

Launches at login, can notify you when it fixes something, and has manual Check, Start Plex and Mount buttons for testing.

Tiny & open source

Native Swift with no dependencies, signed with Hardened Runtime, and released under the MIT license.
